The Department congratulates our History, Geography, and Pan-African Studies undergraduates who have earned the following accolades:
*The William Shannon Morrison Prize: Shiva Mohan
This award is given annually to the graduating senior with the most outstanding record in historical studies.
*The R. Glen Ayers, Jr. Annual Award: Melissa Lin Knapp
This award is presented annually to the best rising senior among history majors, based on grade point average, course distribution, and written work.
*The Carl Lafayette Epting History Essay Award: (Co-winners) William Randall Still, Jr., and Daniel J. Thrift
This award is given annually for the best paper written by an undergraduate for a course offered by the Department of History.
*The South Carolina State Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists Award: Glenn R. Bertram
The South Carolina State Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists annually honors, with an engraved silver bowl, the history major who has excelled in the study of history as well as in other areas of the liberal arts.
*The Ernest McPherson Lander, Jr. Award: Ben Parten
This award for excellence in the study of history is given annually to the most outstanding graduate student in the Department of History, based on coursework, written work and thesis research and writing.
*The Rand McNally Award in Geography: Mary E. Melton
This award is given annually to the most outstanding student in Geography courses.
*The Alan Schafer Award for Pan African Studies: Shatari Dunmore
This award is given annually to the best students in Pan African and African American Studies.
