2014-15 Faculty-in-Residence appointments announced

The Department of Residential Life in University Housing & Dining announced two new Faculty-in-Residence appointments for 2014 – 2015.  Joseph P. Mazer from the communication studies department and Rhondda Thomas from the English department will enhance the residential experience through both formal and informal student engagement opportunities in their respective communities.

Mazer is the associate chair in the department of Communication Studies where he coordinates course offerings, course registration and enrollment management for the department.  He also directs the department’s admissions, curriculum and assessment efforts.  In addition, Joe serves as the director of the College of Architecture, Arts, & Humanities Social Media Listening Center and plans to engage residents through his experience and expertise in this area.  Joe and his wife Chrissy, a lecturer in the Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management, and their one-year-old daughter, Claire, will live in Young Hall in the Shoebox community with first-year residents.

Rhondda Thomas
Rhondda Thomas

Assistant professor Rhondda Thomas  researches and teaches 19th century African-American literature and culture, politics of black identity, autobiographical scholarship, African-American literature and the Bible, race and culture studies, African-American historiography, migration narratives, and African-American women writers. She has received multiple grants to expand her research, regularly including students in the research process. An avid cook who enjoys making vegan soul food, she and her husband, William, will be living in Calhoun Courts where numerous living-learning communities and upper class residents are located.
