2014 Freshman Summer Reading Program: Facilitators needed

The Office of Undergraduate Studies and the Summer Reading Committee seeks volunteers to facilitate a discussion group for the 2014 Freshman Summer Reading Program. Discussion facilitators host a group of 20-25 freshman following the New Student Convocation for a discussion of the book and the author’s talk.

On Monday, August 18 at 1:15 p.m., author Max Barry will address our entire incoming freshman class, along with faculty and staff facilitators in Littlejohn Coliseum. Immediately following his talk, students will break into small groups to discuss the book. We need a lot of help to make the endeavor successful and we will provide you with the resources you need to lead these discussions.

Students will be asked to read the book, think of a question, a favorite quote from the reading, and provide two talking points for discussion. They will be provided with discussion questions prior to convocation and will be expected to write an essay following the discussion.

The purpose of the program is to provide freshmen with a common experience and to welcome them to the intellectual life of the community.
