Academic administrators assume new roles

To meet the needs of the changing academic environment, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Robert H. Jones announced the following position changes:

Carla Bennett, MBA, became director of academic finance. Bennett joined Clemson as the academic financial officer for the College of Business in February 2016. In her new role, she will oversee strategic financial planning and the financial portfolio for Academic Affairs units, in addition to providing support for the colleges and the ClemsonForward strategic plan.

Ellen Granberg, Ph.D., associate provost for faculty relations, became senior associate provost. Granberg has been at Clemson for 16 years and is a professor of sociology and a former chair of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice. In her new role as senior associate provost, she will serve as the provost’s primary deputy and will lead the implementation of the University’s ClemsonForward strategic plan. In addition, she will oversee academic operational effectiveness and faculty affairs.

Frances Kennedy, Ph.D., associate provost of academic finance and operations became special assistant to the provost for Academic Quality Improvement. She has been at Clemson for 16 years and is a professor in the School of Accountancy. Kennedy will work with deans and academic support unit leaders to identify and implement initiatives to improve quality, customer service, efficiency and financial viability in support of ClemsonForward.

Phil Landreth, B.S., became director of academic facilities planning and operations. Landreth has been at Clemson for 30 years in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. His most recent role in the college was chief of staff and chief operating officer. In his new role, he will oversee academic facilities planning and operations for Academic Affairs and provide support for the ClemsonForward strategic plan.

Sharon Nagy, Ph.D., vice provost for global engagement, became associate provost for global engagement. Nagy has led the Office of Global Engagement since August of 2012. She has worked with academic units to introduce new models of international programming and provide innovative opportunities for students and faculty to acquire global competencies. Under her leadership, the Office of Global Engagement has expanded beyond the traditional student mobility services to include public-private partnership development and outreach across the state. In addition, she is spearheading the Clemson Forward global learning initiatives. This change aligns her title with those of her colleagues in Academic Affairs.
