Aug. 19 Academic Convocation features nationally recognized speaker

Michael CrowMichael Crow, the university president who has built a national reputation for making higher education more accessible without sacrificing academic excellence, will be the featured speaker for the Victor Hurst Academic Convocation on August 19, beginning at 9 am in the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.

Why you should be there
Crow, the president of Arizona State University (ASU), has been the architect of an alternative model that he calls the New American University. During his address, he will discuss that model, how it is being put into place at ASU, and his philosophy that universities should not be judged by who they exclude, but rather who they include and how they succeed.

Amazing results
Since coming to ASU in 2002, enrollment increased from 49,000 to 76,000, quality indicators have improved in every area, research expenditures increased from $100 million to $420 million. Yet, the number of faculty remains the same.

ASU faculty have made this transformation possible by their shared belief that universities must change to meet the needs of today’s society.
