To educate faculty, staff and students and to promote awareness, Clemson University has joined other higher education institutions across the nation in recognizing National Campus Safety Awareness month. Each week in September, CUPD, Clemson’s Undergraduate Student Government, Redfern Health Center and other university departments will host a number of campus events to share information, create awareness and promote crime prevention.

Planned campus events include:

  • Rape Aggression Defense Training: Each Monday from 10 a.m. until noon, CUPD officers will be out on campus handing out information about the training to students, faculty and staff.
  • Faculty/Staff workshops: Each Thursday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m., faculty and staff are invited to participate in safety workshops that will held in the Lehotsky Hall auditorium, room G-22. Topics will range from workplace violence to conflict resolution and sexual assault awareness.
  • Coffee with a cop: CUPD invites faculty, staff and student to stop by Starbucks and have coffee with police officers. The event takes place from 9 until 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 2.
  • Speak out and Stand up video: The campus community is invited to meet at Vickery Hall to watch a video about sexual assault awareness. This program will be shown from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 2, 10, and 23, and from 3-4 p.m. on Sept. 17.
  • Campus Safety Month kickoff with free pizza: Students can stop by Bryan Mall, Clemson House, and Cox Plaza at 5 p.m. Thursday Sept. 4 for pizza and information about Campus Safety Awareness Month and upcoming events.

  • Bike Registration: From 2 until 4 p.m. Sept. 23, faculty, staff and students can stop by CUFD to register their bikes and receive theft prevention tips.
  • Campus Safety Walk: Campus Safety Awareness Month wraps up with the annual Campus Safety Walk. Stop by the Hendrix Center on Sept. 24 and join students, faculty, and staff for a walk on campus to help address areas of safety concerns. Participants will be divided into groups and assigned an area to walk. Ice cream will be served afterward. The program will start at 7 p.m. on the patio behind the Hendrix Center.
