Clemson now offers its faculty and staff access to an employee assistance program (EAP) that goes above and beyond the average EAP. The university’s new behavioral health provider, Deer Oaks, offers a variety of confidential services for employees and their family members, including short-term counseling, training opportunities and legal and financial resources.

Deer Oaks provides support to managers and employees through monthly newsletters that cover a variety of topics such as stress management, organization skills and health tips. Training opportunities are also available for managers and employees through onsite trainings, websites or online presentations.

The behavioral health provider also offers assistance with concerns that can affect a person’s work/life balance such as confidential short-term counseling sessions (five sessions per issue per year), legal consultations, financial services and wellness coaching. Legal resources include a free 30-minute session with an attorney, online will preparation and a comprehensive website with other legal forms. Financial services include financial counseling, ID recovery in the case of identity theft, and free identity monitoring. For those interested in embracing a healthy lifestyle, wellness coaching offers a personalized wellness plan, which includes maintaining a fitness routine, losing weight or overcoming tobacco addiction. Employees and their family members are also eligible for one free cab ride a year with no questions asked.

And the best part about this new EAP is that Clemson faculty and staff can access the offerings of this new program at no cost.

When asked about the choice of going with such a comprehensive and extensive program, human resources manager Susanna Johnson, explained, “While all EAPs provide counseling services, we chose Deer Oaks because we were looking for something more comprehensive to meet a wider variety of needs.”
