Clemson celebrates Solid Green Day Oct. 11

By Jackie Todd, Clemson University Relations

To celebrate Solid Green Day, Clemson will hold a litter clean-up event on its main campus from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the event as their schedules allow.

Participants should check-in at the Carillon Garden and will be assigned to various areas on Clemson’s main campus. After returning the litter they collect, participants will receive a free Solid Green T-shirt, as long as supplies last.

Clemson’s Solid Green Day is held on the Wednesday following the university’s Homecoming weekend. Organizers said that the annual event is an extension of the recycling activities held during homecoming, such as the use of recycled materials in Homecoming floats and placement of recycling bins on Bowman Field during the event.

The Solid Green campaign seeks to raise campus awareness of littering, recycling, energy and water conservation and other environmental issues; to promote clean-up activities and other events; and to support student groups that encourage environmental awareness.

Clemson boasts an award-winning recycling program in the state of South Carolina and has been recognized by other ACC schools for its game day recycling efforts over the last several years.
