Clemson University will join with The International Center of the Upstate and Michelin to sponsor Upstate International Month in March. The month-long celebration seeks to create awareness and appreciation for international opportunities in the Upstate and encourages local engagement with international opportunities.

For Clemson, Upstate International Month presents an opportunity to heighten awareness and opportunities for the campus community, to promote a diverse population and to increase opportunities for students to study abroad in different cultures.

During Upstate International Month, the university will host events each week on campus:

  • On March 1, carillon bells all over the upstate will play national anthems from Germany, Mexico, Japan, China, France and more. Clemson’s carillon bells, housed at Tillman Hall, will join in the Ringing of 100 Bells event.
  • On March 7, at 3:00 pm, Clemson will host the second annual Fulbright Academic Symposium, which is open to the public. More info is available here.
  • On March 11, ILEP Academic Symposium will bring together several influential business leaders to discuss the relationship between industry and education locally and internationally. More info available here.
  • On March 28, the international service learning and research colloquium will take place in the Hendrix Student Center. This free conference is open to all Clemson students, facility, staff and community. More info is available here.
  • A traditionally popular and well-attended event is the 2014 International Festival, which is a celebration of cultural awareness at Clemson. The March 30 festival will take place at Bowman Field, and feature volunteers and organizations representing their home country or state by preparing food and providing entertainment for guests. More info is available here. Want to represent your country at the festival? Register here.

As the world is now more globally connected than it has ever been before, Clemson remains an institution that can keep up with the times. As international business generates more jobs, brings in money to the local area and enhances interconnected businesses, Clemson has been an advocate to make the Upstate an important part of international education, both receiving international students and maintaining an award winning study abroad program. The university’s participation in Upstate International Month will not only raise awareness, but will encourage the Clemson community to engage locally and abroad.
