Where would you go to get the freshest dressed turkeys in South Carolina? For many years, the Clemson University Poultry Science Club has been selling free range, drug free, turkeys that are fresh dressed the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The day-old turkey hen poults are donated by Prestage Farms of Camden, S.C. and are raised by the students of the Poultry Science Club. The students round them up and process them the Saturday before Thanksgiving in the Clemson University Meats Lab and bag them on Sunday in bags donated by Sealed Air Corporation (Cryovac) of Duncan, S.C. This is truly a South Carolina product.
The money raised from the sale of the turkeys supports Poultry Science Club activities. Students travel to Atlanta to the International Poultry Exposition where the students attend seminars and apply for internships and permanent positions in the poultry industry. Students also sponsor a farm family at Christmas time and provide toys and games for the children of the Clemson community at Halloween; students also support various 4-H poultry activities as well.

Due to a limited supply, all birds must be ordered ahead of time. The deadline for ordering is Monday Nov. 18, 2013. To reserve a bird, the club will need a name, cell phone number and email address. The cost per bird is $60 and the club takes cash or check only. The birds will be distributed on Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26 in the lobby of Newman Hall between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
