CUPD: Student death on campus

Clemson University police responded to a call this morning regarding the death of a Clemson student, Michael Joseph Allen, an 18-year-old freshman pre-business major from Dunwoody, Georgia. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was called to campus and is continuing its investigation.

At this time, SLED does not believe foul play is involved in the death. “There is no threat to the campus,” said Clemson University Police Chief Eric Hendricks.

“Our hearts go out to the Allen family, friends and his fellow classmates. A death is always hard, for it impacts us all, but even more difficult at this time of year,” said Almeda Jacks, Clemson’s vice president for Student Affairs. “We send our thoughts and prayers out for the loss of this member of our Clemson family.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling. Students who want to speak to a counselor should contact CAPS at 864-656-2451.
