The competition is open to all Clemson undergraduates. There are there scholarship prizes:

  • First Prize $1,500
  • Second Prize $1,000
  • Third Prize $500

For information on cases and instructions, direct students here. Essays should be submitted in electronic form as an attachment to email, which should be sent to djones1@clemson.edu

Winners will be notified by Friday April 25, 2014.

Note: An essay prepared for the competition is an appropriate artifact for the gen ed  ePortolio—for the distributed competency in ethical judgment. Since students can participate each year that they are enrolled as an undergraduate, the competition provides an opportunity to compete for a scholarship several times and write several essays that:
(a) can demonstrate their competency in ethical judgment, and
(b) allow them to see, as they replace an earlier artifact with a fresh one, how their skill in ethical judgment, writing and critical thinking is increasing.

This year, as last, students will choose to write an essay in response to a question associated with one of five cases.  (The cases were prepared for the 18th Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl.  They are used with the kind permission of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, which holds the copyright on them.)
