Free training: CCIT offers specialized services to faculty, staff and students

By Ashley Hedrick, Class of 2016

While most people know about the technology support available at the CCIT desk on the second floor of Cooper Library for technology support, fewer take advantage of the personalized services offered by the CCIT Software Training Group.

The group helps faculty, staff and students use their computers effectively, specializing in Microsoft applications, Google applications, and Adobe programs. In addition to providing free training classes on a variety of topics, such as Microsoft Excel and Advanced Google Sites design, CCIT software training group also creates custom classes and solutions to fit faculty and staff needs.

For professors and course instructors, CCIT will prepare customized lessons by request, then teach the lesson during class time.

“In the past, professors have been reluctant to assign a project that they didn’t know how to support,” said Jan Lay, faculty training coordinator. “Our message is that you don’t have to support or even teach these programs. You don’t even have to know what program to use. We can talk to you, come up with a plan on how your students could use one or more of these programs, and how to get that training to your students.”

CCIT also provides custom solutions to technological needs and projects.

“A lot of staff are able to help their productivity in their work by learning how to use the tools already installed on their computer,” explained student training coordinator Greg Manz. “We want to partner with people and help them figure out the steps to get from A to B.”
