Multiple faculty members of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences win awards

Faculty members in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences, received awards at a gala held for tenure, promotions and other achievements. Bert McCarty, a turfgrass science and management professor in the plant and environmental science department, will receive the 2018 Distinguished Service Award from the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association. The award is for McCarty’s dedication to research and the turfgrass industry. McCarty has written multiple books on the subject and is a well-respected professor in the department.

Amazon’s Smart Life Roadshow and DataPalooza Workshop coming to Clemson

The Smart Life Roadshow will stop at Clemson’s main campus Sept. 24 at the Watt Family Innovation Center on the concrete pad on the north end of the building. The Roadshow will bring smart tech for the office, dorm room, kitchen, living room and life. The smart tech will feature Alexa voice control and different artificial intelligence products.

The DataPalooza Workshop, also held on Sept. 24 from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Academic success center  will feature AWS DeepLens, the world’s first deep learning-enabled video camera for developers. Click here for more information about the events.

Mental health speakers’ panel

Students and faculty will be sharing their personal experiences with mental health on Sep 20. They will be talking about how they coped and how mental health still affects them today. Join them in Bracket Hall, room 120 at 6:30pm to discuss and learn more about mental health. Click here to learn more.

Emergency preparedness tip: After a hurricane

After a hurricane comes through an area, do not reenter until officials indicate it is safe to do so. Avoid using candles or other open flames indoors; simply use a flashlight to inspect the damage.
