Kennedy named associate provost for academic finance and operations

Photo of Frances KennedyAn accounting professor and director of the School of Accountancy and Finance in the College of Business and Behavioral Science has been named Clemson’s associate provost for academic finance and operations.

In her new role, Frances Kennedy will provide leadership, oversight, programmatic coordination and support of the delivery of the academic programs, academic support services and academic budgets, and also support the achievement of the university’s 2020Forward goals.

“It is a privilege to work with outstanding academic program and support leadership,” said Kennedy. “Together we will develop and implement resource strategies that enable faculty to achieve university and program goals.”

“The associate provost for academic financial affairs and operations is key to the success of our academic strategic plan, which calls for new approaches to our academic business practices,” said Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Bob Jones. “Dr. Kennedy’s nationally recognized expertise in organizational effectiveness will be particularly valuable as we look for ways to reduce administrative burden and focus our resources on faculty, students and the core mission. She brings to the table a fantastic leadership skill set, forged by experience in industry as well as academia, where she has been both a faculty member and department chair.”

A 14-year veteran of Clemson, Kennedy has received a number of awards and achievements, including the International Lean Six Sigma Leadership Award, Shingo Prize Award of Research and Professional Publication Award as well as numerous Faculty Excellence Awards and many others. She was recently appointed as a GHS fellow.

Kennedy earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of St. Thomas, a master’s degree in Executive Management from Ashland University and a doctorate in accounting from the University of North Texas.
