Knox named founding director of Clemson Thinks2 program

David Knox

David Knox has been named founding director of the Clemson Thinks2 (CT2) program. Knox will assume leadership of the program on July 1.

The founding director was closely involved in the creation and ongoing implementation of CT2 program, which is an ambitious experiment in critical thinking that aspires to transform student learning and faculty teaching across the curriculum and in the disciplines. The foundation of this effort will be a series of second-year critical thinking (CT2) seminars, a cohort of CT2 Faculty Scholars, a faculty development program, a rigorous assessment plan, and a scholarly research program.

“I am honored to be appointed Founding Director for the Clemson Thinks2 program,” said Knox. “CT2 is a program that has enormous potential to improve the critical thinking skills of our students, to provide professional development opportunities for our faculty, and to further Clemson’s reputation. Our first year of CT2 has been a great success. With that firm foundation, we can build CT2 into an impressive edifice.”

Knox has a number of goals for the CT2 program, including fully implementing the CT2 plan, expanding the number of CT2 courses offered, and increasing awareness of CT2 to the Clemson University community and the world.

Knox has worked as Clemson’s Director for Institutional Assessment since 2008 and will continue in this position in conjunction with his CT2 responsibilities.

Knox earned his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 2004, and served as Director of Technological Academic Initiatives for the University of Georgia Graduate School.

Recently at Clemson University, Knox was among those who led the successful reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
