Windshield wipers. Scotchguard. The dishwasher. These are just a few inventions that have become a part of modern life, and they have one thing in common.

They were invented by women.

Women’s History Month is celebrated during March and corresponds with International Women’s day on March 8. Celebrations and events to honor the contributions of women are held throughout the U.S. and in a number of countries around the world.

Clemson University joins the nation in its celebration with a series of events to be held on the university’s main campus.

“The President’s Commission on Women is excited to begin our annual Celebrating Women’s History month at Clemson,” said Tina White, chair of the President’s Commission on Women at Clemson. “The commission had been actively pursuing child care for faculty, staff, students and area families to join other top 20 universities in the nation. Now that Clemson has reached this goal, we look forward to continuing to address challenges still facing women today.”

White said that events leading up to Women’s History Month are happening as early as Thursday (Feb. 22), when the commission will host a kickoff event before the Clemson women’s basketball game. The Celebrating Women in Athletics tailgate will begin at 6 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum.Officials said that other events, lectures and forums sponsored by the commission and other university colleges and departments will take place throughout March.

The Women’s Commission offers a full listing of events on its web page. Events are also posted on the university calendar.
