Making history: Clemson surpasses United Way goal with record contributions

Clemson’s faculty and staff gave more than 110,000 reasons why they support the United Way. In fact, the university’s $110,000 goal was surpassed in 2015. Organizers say that the campaign, which ended Dec. 31, garnered a record number of donations.

“We are so excited that Clemson University met its challenging United Way goal,” said United Way of Pickens County president Julie Capaldi. “Thousands of people across South Carolina will benefit from the generosity of Clemson employees.”

Clemson Athletics oversaw the 2015 campaign with Kyle Young, associate athletics director, and Roberta Balliet, administrative coordinator for Olympic sports, spearheading their efforts.

“We are extremely happy to not only have reached the goal of $110,000, but increased the percentage of participation from last year. It is only due to the generosity of our students, staff and faculty towards this worthy cause,” said Athletics director Dan Radakovich.

This year’s campaign theme, Paws for a Cause, encouraged faculty and staff to pause for a moment to help others in need.

Money raised in the campaign will stay local and benefit agencies such as Camp iRock, a 10-week summer-learning loss prevention program aimed at bridging the achievement gap by providing high quality reading instruction alongside enriching camp experiences for low-level readers in rising second- to rising fourth-grade students.
