Rowland, a 1995 Clemson graduate with a BS in accounting, joined the university staff in July 2008, after working in corporate accounting. She earned her MBA from Clemson in 2016.

As associate controller since 2014, Rowland has had responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, financial systems and tax responsibilities. Through the combined efforts of Crump and Rowland, the university has distinguished itself for the past 25 consecutive years for receiving the Government Finance Officers of America (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Following Rowland’s acceptance as interim, Tony Wagner, Clemson’s newly hired executive vice president for finance and operations/CFO, announced plans to initiate a national search for the associate vice president and controller position later this spring.

“Sherri seamlessly handled accounting and financial reporting responsibilities while Steve served as interim vice president and CFO for the past eight months,” said Wagner. “This interim appointment recognizes Sherri’s value to the university and ensures continuity in managing the university’s crucial business processes.”

“I appreciate the opportunity and the confidence that has been placed in me,” Rowland said. “Steve Crump has been a fantastic mentor to me and I am thankful that he will still be here at Clemson for consultation. I also thank the members of my staff and the numerous other accounting and business professionals with whom I’ve worked over the years here at Clemson. They truly make this a great place to come to work each day.”
