Staff Senate to host Jan. 3 blood drive on main campus

By Kelly McKeon, Class of 2020

Due to winter weather interruptions, The Blood Connection is in urgent need for donations from all blood types. In response, the Staff Senate will host a blood drive on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3

Employees who donate will receive a FREE $20 Chick-Fil-A gift card as a token of appreciation from the Blood Connection (valid only at any regular Chick-Fil-A restaurant location –  not accepted at campus Chick-Fil-A Express or any other Chick-Fil-A Express location).

“Knowing that this time of year is the season of giving and blood supplies are usually at a very low level, I want to strongly encourage our Clemson Family to step up to make a difference by participating in this important blood drive by giving the gift of life for someone who will need our help,”  said Staff Senate President Dan Hofmann.

Clemson supports the efforts of local blood drives by providing sufficient paid time away from work to employees who would like to donate. This compensation is available to those in full-time equivalent, time-limited and temporary grant positions with 20 or more weekly standard hours.

To use this paid leave benefit, please take the following steps:

  1. Obtain approval from your supervisor to be away from work to donate blood.
  2. In Kronos, use the “Request Time Off” widget to request “10- Blood Drive Donor Leave” for the time you were away from the office.

Nonexempt Employees should clock OUT in Kronos, or input an OUT time on their Excel timesheets, when they leave to make the donation. Upon return, they should clock IN in Kronos, or input an IN time on their Excel time sheet.

The Blood Connection Blood Mobile will be parked next to Riggs Hall on the Fernow St. side. Photo identification or TBC Donor Card is required upon donation.

Walk-ins are acceptable, but donors may register to reserve a specific donation time prior to donating. To register in advance, click here.
