United Way campaign approaching its goal, Dec. 15 deadline

By Jackie Todd, University Relations

With more than $113,000 in pledges, Clemson’s United Way campaign is THIS CLOSE to its $115,000 goal. The generosity of Clemson’s faculty and staff resulted in successful campaigns in past years. Organizers hope that this year is no different.

Faculty and staff who would like to donate should fill out a United Way pledge form and email the completed form to ldoss@clemson.edu, or fax to 656-4235, or mail to United Way Campaign, 103 Sikes Hall, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634-5016.

Participants can select whether they want their contributions to be taken via payroll deduction or through a one-time gift to United Way. Participants who currently donate by payroll deduction and want to continue at that level do not need to complete a pledge form. However, if faculty and staff who currently donate through payroll deduction would like to increase their contribution, they should complete a new pledge form.

Campaign chair Cheryl Dye credited Clemson’s United Way team captains with communication, support and promotion in their respective areas. “Our team captains have been wonderful, ” she said. “They are the key to our success in this effort.”

Team captains include:

Athletics – Kyle Young
Student Services – Rusty Guill
Alumni & Development -Brian O’Rourke
Business & Finance – Michele Piekutowski
Provost’s office – Ellen Granberg
University Relations – Debra Galloway
CCIT – Tom Taylor and Debbie Gravely

College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities – Jeannie Davis

Dye, who directs the university’s Institute for Engaged Aging, thinks that Clemson has had a great year. She hopes that those who have not already donated will consider supporting this year’s campaign. After all, she said, the money collected supports the communities where Clemson employees live.

“It’s a fantastic time to be at Clemson with our Will to Lead donations to keep our academics strong and our football team again putting us in the national spotlight by winning with class,” she said. “How about if we share our good fortune with our neighbors through our United Way donations?”

The deadline for donations is Dec. 15.
