Alesia Smith has joined the Office of Access and Equity staff as executive director of equity compliance/Title IX coordinator. She will lead the consolidation of the university’s Title IX activities, including complaint management, compliance education and training. Some of those activities were formerly in the university’s Division of Student Affairs. Smith will oversee the university’s response to student and non-student complaints and manage the office’s compliance, training and interpersonal violence prevention staff.
“Now, there is a more streamlined process in a central office that will handle all complaints,” Smith said. “Students, faculty and staff can now access one resource for training, education and compliance issues.”
She assumed her new role Aug. 8, and the move is part of the restructuring of the Office of Access and Equity.
A 20-year veteran of Clemson, Smith was most recently the associate dean of students and director of the Office of Community and Ethical Standards (OCES)/deputy Title IX coordinator in the Division of Student Affairs.
“I truly value the years I have worked in the Office of Community and Ethical Standards and the experience I gained as a member of the division of student affairs,” she said. “I have developed meaningful relationships with my staff and colleagues and will miss working with them on a daily basis, but I am excited about this wonderful opportunity. I am looking forward to enhancing the great work the Office of Access and Equity has done with Title IX and other matters.”
Smith has more than 27 years of higher education experience.
She served as a member of the National Campus Advisory Board, Grants to Reduce Violent Crimes Against Women on Campus and Campus Outreach Services Health and Wellness National Advisory Board, chair of Elections and Diversity Issues Committee for the Association of Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA), and is currently the SC state coordinator for ASCA.
