George William (Bill) Koon, professor emeritus – Oct. 3, 2017

George William (Bill) Koon of Greenville died Oct. 3, 2017. He was a professor emeritus in the English Department. Koon taught at Clemson until his retirement in 2008, and served as an influential chair of the English department from 1984 to 1990. He had 36 years of service.

Koon is survived by his wife, family and friends.

“I remember working with Bill for many years and his wry sense of humor,” said College of Arts, Architecture and Humanities Dean Rick Goodstein. “He was a popular instructor who counted novelist Ron Rash among the many students he inspired and influenced.”

A celebration of Koon’s life will be held at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the
donor’s choice.
