Townes L. Gleaton Jr., staff – Oct. 17, 2016

Staff member Townes L. Gleaton Jr., 57, of Seneca, died Oct. 17. A 16-year veteran of Clemson, Gleaton was the assistant director and recycling manager for the residential facilities division of the department of University Housing and Dining.

Gleaton was instrumental in the continuous improvement process and management of the custodial department, according to those who worked with him.

“He was also a champion for recycling in the Housing and Dining areas,” said Reggie Hawthorne, director of Custodial and Building Support, University Housing & Dining. “He went to great lengths to see that recycling was happening no matter if it was for getting a recycling station installed, signs made for Move In and Move Out, or getting recycled items delivered to Kite Hill Recycling Center. Townes always did whatever it took to get the job done and can be remembered for saying “ok, I will take care of it” all while always having a smile on his face.”

A service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Family Life Center in Seneca with burial at Oconee Memorial Park.
