Dr. Ram and Matthew Welch

This award recognizes one student in each of the five colleges at Clemson who has distinguished him or herself in academic scholarship and campus leadership.

The academic prowess of this year’s awardee made him a perfect candidate for being the Supplemental Instruction Leader for Mechanical Engineering 2010 Statics & Dynamics course.

In that role, Matthew Welch organized and led student review sessions three times a week; he helped students integrate course content with study strategies; and he assisted students during in-class problem solving sessions.

His intelligence and maturity brought him to the Citizens for Space Exploration’s 2013 Washington, DC Delegation.

Matthew was one of 29 nationally-selected engineering students who met with congressional delegations and support staff to Advocate for America’s continued involvement in manned space exploration.

This year ME senior, Matthew Welch, is the recipient of the Blue Key Academic and Leadership Award.
