It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Mica Grujicic, the Wilfred P. and Helen S. Tiencken Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Grujicic was a member of Clemson University’s faculty for 28 years, joining in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Wen-qi, and daughter, Angela, who both live in the Clemson area. Dr. Grujicic received the McQueen Quattlebaum Research Award in 2007. The award recognized outstanding accomplishments in engineering research within the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He also received the University Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research in 2011.  He received a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983. He received two degrees from Belgrade University in Yugoslavia, a Masters of Engineering in 1978 and bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1975.

Richard Figliola, chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, remembered Dr. Grujicic as a well-liked and highly respected member of the department. “He will be best remembered for a sense of humor and his constant willingness to contribute to the department in any way,” Figliola said. “He was a strong researcher, leading the department in external funding year after year. Our students were very fond of him. We have lost a valued colleague.”
