On the morning of 22 January, Cadets Patterson, Berg, Englehart, and Sturgis swore an oath and contracted into the United States Army before an early morning PT session, with the rest of the Clemson Fightin’ Tiger Battalion looking on. This is a significant milestone and accomplishment in these Cadets’ time at Clemson University. As freshmen Cadets, each of them has distinguished themselves amongst their peers over the past semester and been awarded an ROTC scholarship, which pays for tuition and gives a monthly stipend as well as book allowance. By contracting, they are committing to complete the ROTC program, and receive a commission as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from Clemson.
