On Sunday, April 12, 2015, Clemson University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps conducted a Walk for Veterans. This event was held in order to elevate the awareness of Clemson’s military heritage and provide funding for the new Clemson Student Veterans Association endowment Scholarship. In total, $13,571 dollars was raised that will go to this scholarship, which is awarded to those veterans who have sacrificed for our country and then decided to come to Clemson to obtain their degree. The CSVA is dedicated to helping fellow students who’ve served, or are currently serving in the US military. The scholarship will initially be $1,000 per year and awarded to student veterans. Veterans, students, and family members gathered at the President’s House for an introduction, moment of silence, and balloon release. The walk began at the President’s House and ended at Fike Recreation Center. At the finish line was a catered barbecue meal, and Cadet Austin McIlwain, Frank Cox, President of Clemson Corps, and the CSVA president, Sam Wigley made remarks. Thanks to all those who helped put on a great Walk for Veterans. It was a great event and will truly have a lasting impact. Go Tigers!
