December is usually filled with holiday glee and good spirit. For a specific few cadets, of Clemson’s Army and Air Force ROTC program, this December is filled with an additional exited for their Commissioning Ceremony. Held on December 16th 2015 in Tillman auditorium, Army Cadets Delgado, Ponds, Haines, DesJardin, and Koch as well as Air Force Cadet Hatfield raised their right hands and swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America. All were commissioned as Second Lieutenants into their respective services and will be headed to a variety of duty stations for additional training. Following the Oath of Commissioning, was the tradition of the First Salute. This is a military custom in which an Enlisted personnel renders the newly Commissioned Officer his or her first hand salute followed by the Officer exchanging a silver dollar to the Enlisted personnel. Capping off the event, Howard’s Rock was open for family and friends to gather for a photo with the Army and Air Force’s newest Second Lieutenants.
