The 3rd class of Beaufort Junior Leadership kicked off their year with Art & History day. We started the day with 4-H volunteer, Brad Smith presenting an excellent résumé writing workshop. Students learned how they can stand out with their applications and get noticed by potential employers.

The first stop of the day was the Beaufort History Museum to see special artifacts, process timelines, and be immersed in the area’s rich history.Next, we visited the Penn Center, the first school in the South for Formerly Enslaved West Africans. Dr. Marie Gibbs shared incredible stories of her upbringing and vibrantly told the students the history of the Penn Center along with the Gullah culture. Students enjoyed a special scavenger hunt!

We spent a little bit of time doing icebreakers and team building so that the students could continue to get to know their classmates. Jonathan Haupt from Pat Conroy Literary Center finished off our day sharing Pat’s legacy and honing in on the importance of servant leadership. We’re off to a great start with this group!
