Dr. Renee Cottle Chosen to Compete for NIH Funding

Clemson University nominated Dr. Renee Cottle, a recent graduate of the joint Biomedical Engineering program at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, for the NIH-funded 2016 Director’s Early Independence Award. The program is for exceptional junior scientists who possess the abilities and maturity to launch a research program directly after completion of a doctoral degree. If selected for the program, Dr. Cottle will receive $1.25 million over 5 years to launch her research program investigating the role of mechanical cues on collagen-fiber assembly and calcification in heart valves. Dr. Cottle will join the Department of Bioengineering as an Assistant Professor as of August 15th, 2016.
