BLACKVILLE, S.C. – Congratulations to Clemson University doctoral student Bennett Harrelson who received a first-place award for his presentation in the Applied Soybean Research Community oral contest for doctoral students during the 2024 American Society of Agronomy Meeting held Nov. 10-13, in San Antonio, Texas.
Harrelson’s presentation was based on his dissertation work that involves developing best management practices for farmers considering double-cropping soybeans behind corn.
The competition was comprised of 10 doctoral students from eight universities.
Harrelson is studying under the guidance of Michael Plumblee, Clemson Extension corn and soybean specialist at the Edisto REC in Blackville, South Carolina. This study is funded by the South Carolina Soybean Board.
The researchers are looking at several different agronomic factors revolving around the double crop corn and soybean production system including planting and harvest dates, row spacing and the use of at-plant nitrogen.
