A chance meeting at a Clemson University department chairs meeting led to an idea, and after several conversations, it eventually gave way to the development of a multi-department and interdisciplinary One Water Workshop. Given the many water-related academic courses in their school and departments, these two men couldn’t ignore the potential impact of a collaboration among their faculty. Credit for developing the workshop and bringing these faculty together goes to Dr. Jesus M. de la Garza, school director of CEEES, and Dr. Charles Privette, III, chair of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and the interim director of the SC Water Resources Center.
On Thursday, May 8th, 2025, four staff, two department heads, and twenty-four water-related faculty members from the Agricultural Sciences Department, Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, as well as the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering gathered at the South Carolina Water Resources Center for a welcome luncheon, followed by a historical tour of the facility, and finally a presentation of each of the faculty’s teaching areas and research interests. This workshop fostered new collaborations and synergies in water-related research and teaching, renewed old friendships between colleagues, and encouraged new partnerships and teamwork among the faculty.
We are excited to see what new collaborations in water-related research and teaching develop throughout the next academic year.
