2025 SCEEES Student Research Showcase

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (SCEEES) is excited to host the 2025 Student Research Showcase on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 12:00 – 2:00 PM in the Watt Family Innovation Center Atrium on Clemson University’s main campus.

This showcase highlights the outstanding research being conducted by undergraduate and graduate students within SCEEES, offering participants an opportunity to present their work to faculty, peers, alumni, industry partners, and donors.

Who Can Participate

Participation is open to:

    • Undergraduate students in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering (CE) or the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (EEES)
    • Graduate students (Master’s or Ph.D.) in CE or EEES
How to Apply

Interested students must submit an Intent to Participate Application that includes:

    • Project title
    • Research abstract (250–300 words)
    • Faculty advisor information
    • Poster – will be submitted through a separate portal.
      • Poster dimensions will be determined based on your selection of a digital poster or a printed poster on your application. Templates will be provided. 

Deadline to apply: Friday, October 24, 2025 (one week before the showcase)

What to Expect
    • Prepare and display a research poster at the event.
      • Digital and printer poster options are available. Note your preference on your application
    • Deliver a 5–10-minute presentation to judges and answer questions.
    • Your abstract and advisor information will be featured in the official event program.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to have completed my research to participate?
No. Works-in-progress are welcome, as long as your abstract clearly states the research question, approach, and expected impact.

Q: What format should my abstract follow?
Abstracts should be 250–300 words (no more than 1600 characters) and include:

    • Research question and motivation
    • Methods
    • Results (or anticipated results)
    • Conclusion
    • Broader impact statement

Q: Can I present as part of a team?
Yes, but only one student should serve as the primary applicant. Team members should be listed on the poster and acknowledged in the abstract.

Q: Do I have to use the templates for my poster?
No, you may use any template for your poster so long as the aspect ratio is correct for the display that you selected. A set of formatted templates are available for those interested in utilizing them. 

Q: Do I need to print my poster?
No, we will print your poster and have it ready for pickup at the event. Please ensure that the poster is appropriately formatted when submitting.

    • Printed posters have an aspect ratio of 4:3 (48″ in width by 36″ in height
    • Digital posters have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (56″ in width by 31.5″ in height)

Q: What if I need a poster backer board and easel?
Poster backer boards, clips, and easels will be available for all printed posters. These will be set up prior to the event. 

Q: Will there be awards?
Yes. Projects will be evaluated by faculty and industry judges, and recognition will be given for top presentations.

Q: Can faculty or advisors attend?
Absolutely. Faculty advisors, classmates, and supporters are encouraged to attend and engage with student presenters.
