Our Origin: The question that started it all
Clemson’s Agricultural Economics Club, our predecessor, stopped its activities in 2011, at the same time when the Applied Economics and Statistics Curriculum was going through a turbulent period. Fast forward to the Summer of 2013 the Agribusiness major is introduced at Clemson. That fall, two undergraduate “refugees”, Victoria Rizer and Elizabeth McLeod, approached the reconstituted faculty and asked the question that started it all: “With the major revived, can we now resurrect the Agricultural Economics Club?”
Our old life ended in 2011, when the Department of Applied Economics & Statistics, our former home, was disbanded. Fast-forward to the summer of 2013: Clemson University reinstated an agricultural economics curriculum, its major now styled Agribusiness. That fall, two undergraduate “refugees”, Victoria Rizer and Elizabeth McLeod, approached the reconstituted faculty: “With the major revived, can we now resurrect the Agricultural Economics Club?”
The Rebirth
Just two weeks after the suggestion, the club held its first official meeting, its first breath of life in three long years. Four faithful attended that first meeting: Victoria and Elizabeth, along with Larabeth Smith and Zachary Sharp. Its first order of business? Settle on a new name, consistent with the new major. Thus was the Clemson University Agribusiness Association reborn.
