MCRP Student Studies Abroad in China

During Summer 2019, MCRP Student, Elizabeth Burns joined the University of Florida in Studio class, Urban Planning and Design Issues in China.

This Study Abroad course introduced students to planning and design issues along with challenges facing the rapidly growing cities in China. Students participated in actual planning and design case studies in Shanghai. At the Huazhong University of Science and Technology located in Wuhan, students collaborated with planning students and faculty.

Shanghai is considered a global city know as being the “Paris of the East” and Wuhan is an industrial city located in the middle of Yangtze River that is transforming into the “Silicon Valley” of China.  Students gained a basic understanding of rapid urbanization affects on the demand for housing, transportation and other urban infrastructure.

Elizabeth visited the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, Tianzi Fang, Hongqiao and toured Suzhou.
