Each session, participants contribute a small amount to benefit deserving college students.<\/p>\nAugust 12, 2026, (Wednesday), 10:00 \u2013 11:30 am, Hybrid, Music, Mayhem, Murder and Manson: The Making of Music in LA During the 1960s with Vince Jackson. <\/strong>During the 1960s the rock music scene blossomed in Los Angeles, CA, driven by the synergy created by the Sunset Strip, Laurel Canyon properties, and the rise of independent recording studios. Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Carol King, Johnny Rivers, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys, The Turtles, The Monkees and many others grew their talents in this rich musical environment, becoming stars. With stardom sometimes come problems associated with success in the music business. This presentation explores the mostly unknown ways much of the music was created and why so much of it is still popular today. Moments and Memories, Volume II <\/em>writing sessions are designed to inspire your thinking about your time at Clemson, engender topics and episodes to write about, provide time to write, and solicit feedback from other Emeritus College participants. Many Emeritus College programs and events could not take place without the steady flow of donations to the College. These donations are made by members of the Emeritus College. Whether it is a donation of $50 or $5,000, the funds are put to good use for student scholarships, services to Clemson, and maintaining cohesion among emeriti. These colleagues, who donate their time as well as their money, are responsible for the Emeritus College\u2019s reputation as one of the very best emeritus organizations in the United States.<\/h3>\nThanks to generous financial support from the provost\u2019s office, the Emeritus College suite provides well-appointed individual workstations, attractive social space, and a seminar room with high quality web conferencing capability. Many of our emeriti are artists and some have loaned their artwork and bound publications for display in our suite. Those enhancements have produced a pleasant, gallery-like setting to help emeritus faculty maintain professional productivity.<\/h3>\n

Each session, participants contribute a small amount to benefit deserving college students.<\/p>\n August 12, 2026, (Wednesday), 10:00 \u2013 11:30 am, Hybrid, Music, Mayhem, Murder and Manson: The Making of Music in LA During the 1960s with Vince Jackson. <\/strong>During the 1960s the rock music scene blossomed in Los Angeles, CA, driven by the synergy created by the Sunset Strip, Laurel Canyon properties, and the rise of independent recording studios. Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Carol King, Johnny Rivers, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys, The Turtles, The Monkees and many others grew their talents in this rich musical environment, becoming stars. With stardom sometimes come problems associated with success in the music business. This presentation explores the mostly unknown ways much of the music was created and why so much of it is still popular today. Moments and Memories, Volume II <\/em>writing sessions are designed to inspire your thinking about your time at Clemson, engender topics and episodes to write about, provide time to write, and solicit feedback from other Emeritus College participants. Thanks to generous financial support from the provost\u2019s office, the Emeritus College suite provides well-appointed individual workstations, attractive social space, and a seminar room with high quality web conferencing capability. Many of our emeriti are artists and some have loaned their artwork and bound publications for display in our suite. Those enhancements have produced a pleasant, gallery-like setting to help emeritus faculty maintain professional productivity.<\/h3>\n
