Name:  Alex Spence
Expected Graduation Year:  May 2018
Major(s):   Financial Management
Emphasis: Corporate Finance
Hometown: Florence, South Carolina

Why did you choose Finance as a major?

While in pre-business I really liked how logical and intuitive finance problems were. I also like working with numbers and solving problems, which is a lot of what finance is.

What career field/job would you like to pursue after graduating?

I would like to work as a corporate financial analyst for a large company and eventually become a CFO.

What has been your favorite/most memorable moment at Clemson?

My favorite moment at Clemson was celebrating with my teammates after winning the National Championship.

Any recent accomplishments?

I received the Danny Lee Ford Scholarship Award for having the highest GPA on the football team.

Do you have a great internship experience you’d like to share?

Last summer I participated in the UPIC internship program on campus. I interned at the Office of the VP for Finance and Operations and had a great experience. I was finally able to apply some of the knowledge I learned in my finance classes to real world problems.

What do you think prepared you the most?

I think all of the corporate finance classes I have taken so far at Clemson prepared me the most for the internship because the things you do as an analyst for the university are very similar to what you learn in class.

Any words of advice to other students?

College goes by really fast, so make sure you enjoy every day and don’t let little things stress you out!
