State Legislative Update

THIS WEEK IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Last Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee amended and gave a favorable report to H.4717 (Farm Aid Bill). The bill is now on the Senate calendar for second reading.

On Wednesday, the House passed H.4521 (Tucker Hipps Transparency Act). The bill now goes to the Senate.

The State Budget Process
The House of Representatives is expected to begin their work on the state budget today.

The Senate Finance Committee will continue holding budget subcommittee hearings through early April.

The Senate Finance Committee budget hearings for Clemson PSA and Clemson E&G  were both held on Wednesday, March 16. President Clements, Vice President George Askew and Vice President Brett Dalton presented Clemson’s budget requests to the respective budget subcommittees.

The Clemson University Governmental Affairs office is monitoring several bills that have potential impact on Clemson.  A complete listing of these bills may be found here.  Click on the bill number for a description of the legislation, along with the bill’s current status.

FYI
Members of the State 4-H Teen Council and approximately 200 4-H students and agents from across the state traveled to Columbia last Wednesday, March 16, for their annual legislative day. South Carolina’s National Championship 4-H Horse Bowl Team was also recognized by the House and Senate during the day.
