Gates to visit Clemson; limited tickets for faculty, staff

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates will visit Clemson University Monday, Nov. 2 to host a question-and-answer session with students.

“A Conversation with Bill Gates: The Future Generation’s Role in Addressing the World’s Greatest Challenges” will be at 4:30 p.m. in Tillman Hall auditorium. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and will close at 4 p.m.

Gates’ talk is student-centered, so priority seating is allotted to Clemson students who registered for tickets yesterday. Student tickets for the event were claimed in 10 minutes.

Limited seating available for faculty and staff

A very limited amount of tickets are available for faculty and staff to attend. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. One ticket per attendee. Faculty and staff should click here to register and download a ticket. Faculty and staff must present a ticket and Clemson ID at the door.

The event will be streamed live on ClemsonTV and overflow seating to see Gates’ presentation will be in Ballroom B at the Hendrix Student Center.

Gates and his wife, Melinda, launched the Gates Foundation to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology in the U.S. and enhance health care and reduce extreme poverty in the world.

Robert E. Stadtmiller, retiree – Oct. 10, 2015

Robert E. Stadtmiller of Pendleton died Oct. 10, 2015. He was a trades craftsman, who retired in 1992 after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his stepdaughter.

Clinton H. Hallman, Sr., retiree – Sept. 1, 2015

Clinton H. Hallman Sr, , of Aiken died September 1, 2015. He was a county extension agent-senior associate, who retired in 1984 after 13 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter.

Nov. 1 International Festival canceled

The International Festival, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1 at Bowman Field has been canceled. The cancellation is due to the expected rain fall for the remainder of the week as well as the anticipated unsafe field conditions on Bowman Field for Sunday. A new date will be determined in the near future. We hope to provide the best experience for students and community members who make this event a success.

Prototype Preview, Final Live Session for Clemson be True

The final LIVE session of the Clemson U.Lab Hub will be this Thursday, October 29 in Room 118 of the Academic Success Center.  Join us at 9 a.m. if you have a prototype to pitch, or want to preview a sample of projects developed through the MIT Presencing Institute. There will be a sign up board for those interested in participating in the development of proposed Clemson Hub prototypes. At 10 a.m., we will connect virtually along with 45,000+ global change-makers for the U.Lab LIVE “Co-Evolving” session with MIT Professor Otto Scharmer, who will be sharing emerging results from U.Lab participants’ multi-local prototyping.  Everyone is welcome to join for either or both sessions.

Experience Clemson named a finalist in IIDA’s Design Excellence Award competition

Experience Clemson, the interactive virtual museum located in the heart of Greenville, has been named one of 24 finalists in the People’s Choice segment of the International Interior Design Association’s Design Excellence Awards.

The number of votes rendered online will determine the winner of the competition.

Jessica Johnson, the Experience Clemson site manager thinks the museum has a good chance to win the competition because of its unique and contemporary design.

“The design needed to resonate what you think of when you think of Clemson—warm, inviting, and dynamic,” she said.

Competition organizers will announce the winner on Oct. 22.

 

Open enrollment deadline for state insurance extended to Nov. 6

Due to the recent storm, open enrollment has been extended. You now have until Nov. 6 to make changes to your state insurance package—including dental this year—and enroll or re-enroll in a Medical Spending Account (MSA) and/or Dependent Care Spending Account (DCSA). Any changes you make will take effect on Jan. 1, 2016.
