Wayne (Roy) Leroy Ogle, professor emeritus – May 20, 2017

Wayne (Roy) Leroy Ogle, 94, of Chattanooga, TN died May 20, 2017. The World War II veteran was a plant and environment sciences professor.

A respected and well-known researcher, Ogle developed and patented many vegetable varieties including Colossus Peas, Hercules Peas, Clemson Purple Peas, and Cherokee Sweet Potato. In 2016, the Clemson Experiment Station patented and named one of his varieties, the Southern Ogle Pea, after him. Read more here.

Ogle retired from Clemson in 1987 after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, son , family and friends.

Funeral Services were held at May 25, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, or to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattanooga.
