Eugene H. Bishop, retiree – Dec. 12, 2015

Eugene H. Bishop, 82, of Clemson died Dec. 12, 2015. Dr. Bishop was a department chair and professor of mechanical engineering. He also served as dean for the College of Engineering. Bishop retired in 1995 with 22 years of service to Clemson and the State of South Carolina.

He received many accolades for his achievements including the Alumni Master Teacher award in 1988, the Governor’s Distinguished Professor Award in 1989, the Alumni Professor award in 1993, and the Distinguished Engineering Fellow Award from Mississippi State in 2003.

Bishop is survived by his daughter, son, grandchildren, family and friends.

A funeral service was held Dec. 15, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Clemson.

Vishnu Narayanan, student – Dec. 2015

Student Vishnu Narayanan died this morning.

Narayanan was a senior chemical engineering major from Charleston.

“The Clemson Family is heartbroken at the passing of one of our students,” said Almeda Jacks, vice president of Student Affairs. “Our hearts go out to Vishnu’s family and friends.”

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling. Students who want to speak to a counselor should contact CAPS at 864-656-2451.

Hassan M. Behery, professor emeritus – Dec. 4, 2015

Hassan Behery, Ph.D., 87, of Clemson, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2015. He was a professor emeritus of textile engineering, who retired in 2001 after 29 years of service.

Behery was instrumental in establishing the Graduate Program in Textiles and in the expansion of Professional Development at Clemson University. He was also instrumental in developing and improving Textile Colleges and Institutions in many countries around the world, including Portugal, Turkey, Colombia and China. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow of the Textile Institute in England, and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

Behery is survived by his wife, Mervet, daughter, Hala, and son, Moody Behery.

The funeral service was held Dec. 5, 2015. Donations in his honor may be sent to the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice.

Carlton Wilbur Ulbrich, retiree – Dec. 6, 2015

Carlton Wilbur Ulbrich, 83, of Clemson died Dec. 6, 2015.

Ulbrich joined the faculty at Clemson in 1966 as a physics professor, where he taught and did research in radar meteorology and rainfall measurement. After his retirement in 1993, he continued his sponsored research through 2005. In 1997, he was honored as a fellow of the American Meteorological Society.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by three daughters, including Christine Prado, who currently works as an art director in the university’s Creative Services department.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11.

William H. Craven, Jr., retiree – Dec. 4, 2015

William H. Craven, Jr., 86, of Aiken died Dec. 4, 2015. He was a county extension agent for Agriculture in Edgefield and Saluda Counties, who retired in 1971 with 18 years of service.

In the 1990’s, he served Clemson as President of the Agricultural Heritage Center at the Edisto Research and Education Center, and he represented Clemson University as a chairman of the Board of Visitors. In 2015, he was inducted into the Clemson A. Frank Lever County Agent Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his sister, two children, family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Burke County Office Park, 715 W. 6th St. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 5 – 7 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Old Mizpah Methodist Church Cemetery (South Bamberg County, SC) on Thursday, Dec 10 at 10:30 am. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro on Thursday, Dec 10 at 3pm.

Lynda Louise Heriot, retiree – July 2, 2015

Lynda Louise Heriot, 90, of Florence died July 2, 2015. She was a extension agent associate, who retired in 1980 with 35 years of service.

She is survived by her brother.

Michael Joseph Allen, student – Dec. 1, 2015

Student Michael Joseph Allen, 18, died Dec. 1. 2015.

Allen was a freshman pre-business major from Dunwoody, Georgia.

Funeral Service information:

A funeral mass will be at held 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at All Saints Catholic Church, 2443 Mount Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338. The mass will be followed by a reception in the church Social Hall from 2-3:30 p.m.

After the reception at approximately 4 p.m., Allen will be interned at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328

Robert W. Snelsire, professor emeritus – Nov. 16, 2015

Robert W. Snelsire, 82, of Clemson died Nov. 16, 2015. He was a professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering, who retired in 1998 after 31 years of service. Snelsire was instrumental in establishing  the PEER program at Clemson University.

Snelsire is survived by his wife, Marguerite Kirsch and his son and two daughters.

A funeral service was held 4 p.m., Nov. 20, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson, 230 Pendleton Road, Clemson.

Thomas Efland, retiree – Nov. 10, 2015

Thomas Efland, 91, of Clemson died Nov 10, 2015. He was a professor, associate dean/resident director, Office of the Dean in the College of Commerce and Industry, who retired in 1987 after 36 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, family and friends.

A funeral service was held Nov. 16, 2015 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church.
