Summer has arrived at Clemson University and the Campus Recreation has faculty and staff covered on entertainment! Campus Recreation offers Clemson employees a variety of ways to enjoy the summer months, from personal exercise training to free kayak rentals for Hartwell Lake.

“Fike has everything you could want and it’s right at work,” CCIT public information coordinator Ryan Real said about the services offered at Fike. “It’s less expensive than other gyms and whatever they offer can fit into your schedule. Plus, it’s a great way to get healthier and get to know your co-workers better.”

Employees can access Fike’s 175,000-square-foot fitness facility to fulfill any of their exercise needs with a gym membership. The facility includes an eight-lane lap pool, 30-foot rock-climbing wall, an indoor track, eight racquetball courts, six basketball courts and approximately 11,000 square feet of fitness and cardio equipment. Membership fees vary from $110 for six months, to $210 for 12 months. There is an added fee for members looking to add spouses and children to their membership.

This membership includes access to all the locker rooms and showers at the fitness center, as well as the equipment. For employees who do not want to carry around their towels all day, Fike even offers a towel service. There are free lockers in the facility, but use of these is on a first-come, first-served basis. Members may also rent a locker for an additional fee.

Fike also offers a variety of different fitness programs during the summer. These programs can be workouts with nationally certified personal trainers, group fitness classes, small group training or even summer intramurals.

“One of the small group training features this summer is paddle boarding fitness. Twice a week for a full month, the group will take their paddleboards out to the lake for their class,” associate director of member services Vicki Roberts said. “Throughout the year they rotate the programs. In the past they’ve done women on weights, inversion yoga and even a boot camp class.”

Here, employees can set up a consultation for future physical therapy sessions. Even though UPTSM is a separate entity from Fike, it does accept university insurance.

Campus Recreation also boasts the services of Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education. CORE offers outdoor adventure trips, outdoor camping equipment rentals and rentable kayaks and canoes. Rentals for equipment can range from a day to multiple weeks. One of the outdoor adventures planned for this summer is a hiking trip to Rainbow Falls, a stunning 100-foot waterfall.
