Faculty participation in COACHE survey to measure job satisfaction

The simplest way to determine faculty’s satisfaction with their jobs is to ask them.

Toward that end, faculty are encouraged to participate in the upcoming Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) survey, which allows respondents to share their current job satisfaction compared to faculty at peer institutions. Participants can gain access to the 25-minute, web-based survey by clicking on the unique link emailed to them from COACHE (coachefaculty@opinioncast.com). COACHE will not use any name or email address for any purpose except for this research.

Things to know:

  • In a process approved by Harvard’s and Clemson University’s institutional review boards, COACHE will provide Clemson with its summary analysis, as well as the confidential, unit-record database, stripped of names and email addresses.
  • The data provided to Clemson will be received and kept on a secure server by Institutional Research.
  • No administrator, staff or faculty member outside of Institutional Research at Clemson will have access to the unit-record data.
  • Within a week, faculty will receive an email from COACHE directing them to the online survey.

Clemson officials say that faculty views are crucial as the university strives to attract and retain the best and brightest scholars and teachers, increase the satisfaction of all faculty, and to make Clemson a productive and satisfying place to work. They added that data from the COACHE study will be meaningful with broad participation.
