Professor of environmental sustainability traveled to foster US-China research

Gary Machlis, professor of environmental sustainability, joined scientists from the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in Beijing to foster US-China research on future urban sustainability initiatives. The delegation met with the Chinese National Academy of Science and their president. Machlis spoke to the groups about conservation activities and nature reserves. The groups discussed key challenges and opportunities for the US-China research. There will be a follow-up meeting between the leaders in 2019.

Researchers reveal secrets of parasite that causes African sleeping sickness

James Morris, a Clemson professor in the College of Science’s department of genetics and biochemistry, and a team of researchers have been studying the deadly African sleeping sickness to find a way to protect humans from the effects. The disease has been studied for more than 100 years but the parasite still remains a mystery to researchers. Morris spent 26 years on the mystery of the disease. School of Nursing recognizes new inductees into Hall of Fame

The School of Nursing recently established a Hall of Fame to recognize individuals who have helped shape the School of Nursing since it began in 1968. This year’s inductees included former deans and directors of the program and nursing advocate chairs. This year, the hall of fame inducted eight leaders earlier this month.
