Nominate a colleague for the Thomas Green Clemson Award for Excellence

Provost Bob Jones invites Clemson employees to nominate colleagues for the Thomas Green Clemson Award for Excellence.

The Thomas Green Clemson Award for Excellence was established in 1999 and funded by the provost to recognize Clemson University faculty and staff whose teaching, research and/or service have been exemplary and have made sustained and significant contributions to the academic life at Clemson University over a lengthy service period. While all Clemson faculty and staff are eligible, nominations are particularly encouraged for individuals whose contributions have not previously been recognized at the university level.

The award includes $5,000 to be evenly divided between the recipient and the university Libraries. Each recipient of the award will also receive a plaque and their name will be added to the perpetual Thomas Green Clemson Award for Excellence plaque on permanent display in the R.M. Cooper Library lobby. The monies donated to the Libraries will be used to purchase new materials to be added to the Libraries’ collection, and these purchases will include a personalized donor plate honoring the award recipient.

Criteria and eligibility: Currently employed faculty and staff in permanent positions who have made sustained and significant contributions to academic life at Clemson University are eligible for nomination. Guidelines as to eligibility categories for faculty and staff are determined by the provost. While all Clemson faculty and staff are eligible, nominations are particularly encouraged for individuals whose contributions have not previously been recognized at the university level, although a nominee can be recognized at the national level. Faculty and staff who have retired are ineligible to receive the award.

Nominations are confidential and nominees should not be told of their nominations. Nomination forms are attached. Contact Brenda Smith at bjs@clemson.edu or 864-656-3940 with questions or concerns.

The Selection Committee will review the nominations and select the recipient(s). The recipient(s) will be announced at the General Faculty Meeting in December 2016.

Please send the completed nomination form to Brenda Smith, 206 Sikes Hall, by 4:30 p.m.  Friday, Nov. 4.
