Resources for tax preparation

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued new 2018 tax charts to support the tax reform bill (The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act). The university’s Payroll Office communicated these changes in early February and implemented the new tax charts beginning with your February 15 paycheck. The impact for existing employees was most likely a decrease in federal income tax resulting in an increase in take-home pay.

What this means for you

Your tax return for 2018 may change significantly from your 2017 return, and it is important to be informed.

The IRS has developed a Withholding Calculator to help you estimate your 2018 tax liability. Visit this quick reference guide for step-by-step instructions on how to fill out the Withholding Calculator using information from your Clemson University paystub. Beyond utilizing these tools, you might also consider seeking advice from a tax accountant.
