Annie Tribble, retiree – April 18, 2013

Annie Tribble, 80, passed away April 18 after a battle with cancer. Tribble, who coached the Clemson women’s basketball team from 1976-87, is a member of the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame and the State of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

Tribble led the Lady Tigers to seven postseason tournaments and amassed 200 wins in 11 seasons at the helm of the program, including 22 over top-25 opponents.  She produced a number of All-Americans and led Clemson to the ACC regular season championship in 1981.

Tribble was a Clemson alumna, having earned a bachelor’s degree in 1966 and a master’s degree in 1969. She moved into academic advising before her retirement in 1993 with 17 years of service.

Earlier this week, Tribble was presented with two awards – a Key to the City of Clemson, from the city of Clemson and a plaque naming the Clemson Head Women’s Basketball Coach’s Office in her honor, from the Clemson Athletic Department.

Tribble is survived by her husband, two sons, family and friends.

Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 22 at First Baptist Church of Pendleton. The family will receive friends from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
