Bill Surver, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences – June 19, 2021.

William (Bill) Merle Surver, 77, of Clemson, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences, died June 19, 2021.

Surver retired from Clemson in 2018 after 39 years of service. In addition to his teaching duties, he was department head of Biological Sciences and served as Faculty Senate president.

Surver graduated from St. Francis University with a Bachelor of Science in biology and from the University of Notre Dame with a Ph.D. in genetics. He taught biology and genetics at the University of Rhode Island before joining the Clemson faculty in 1979.

He is survived by his son, Andrew Surver of Greenville; his sister, Sally Surver of La France; and his ex-spouse, Kathleen Sawtelle of Coventry, Rhode Island. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Surver.
