G. Richard Thompson, Professor Emeritus of Economics – December 15, 2020

Richard Thompson, 80, Professor Emeritus of Economics, died December 15, 2020.

Thompson retired from the Department of Economics at Clemson in 2008. He previously served as assistant dean of the College of Commerce and Industry and interim head of the Department of Marketing.

Prior to Clemson, he worked at the University of Southern Alabama and the University of Central Florida and was a visiting Professor at Arizona State University and a visiting lecturer at Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Pau (France) and Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnologia (Costa Rica). During his career, he served as a consultant and expert witness testifying to economic damage claims in numerous courts, primarily throughout the southeastern states. He was also an Army veteran.

Surviving is his loving and committed long-time partner, Adrienne Gerus.

A celebration of Thompson’s life is being planned for later in 2021 once the COVID-19 pandemic has abated. A fund is being set up to help support deserving Clemson students interested in study-abroad experiences.
